Carlos, thank you for creating this news letter. I am from Central Florida, and we are trying our best to organize a more effective movement here. I'm sure you already know, but our local government is trying to work with the Trump administration to build a detention center here in the Florida Everglades. This would be a disaster for many reasons. First, this would give ICE more resources to illegally kidnap and imprison innocent people. Whether they are documented or not, NOBODY deserves to be sent to cages without food or water or basic hygiene needs. This would create more human rights violations in our state. Secondly, the indigenous people who live in the Everglades, the Miccosukee Tribe, would see their land devastated by the construction of a detention center. Lastly, this would cost Floridian tax payers 450 million a year to maintain! Our federal government is planning on taking away our funds from FEMA, the program that protects us from hurricanes and other natural disasters, so that they can fund this detention center.
I'm asking you to please speak out against this. We need more people to know about this horrible development. We need more Floridians to get educated on what is going on so they can get informed on what they can do to stop this detention center from being built. I am working with 50501 to fight back with protests, sit ins, etc. We are also trying to plan a concert or music event in Central Florida to raise awareness. We need to reach out to Latin American artists of all genres that would be willing to participate.
If you have any suggestions or advice, please let me know. We need your guidance more than ever.
We need your work and communication and pursuit for all, now more than ever. Bringing together people, in 2 very important languages, can have far reaching positive consequences. Please keep up the support of all the people. Thanks!
How do I safely find any grassroots or community mobilized efforts in my small town? It's like living in a movie, our town is almost locked down. We have media blackout or any coverage or videos of what is happening on our streets. I have seen with my own eyes.
There is no sign or acknowledgement that it is not Mayberry Main Street America, all is good, it's great! Nothing to see here. Move along, look SHINY OBJECT to distract.
Gracias Carlos. This is the first follow-up I've heard about the heartbreaking assault, arrest and detention of Narciso Barranco. To me, these actions are criminal but there seems to be zero accountability. It's so good to know that money is being raised. I just hope something can be done. Unfortunately, there are thousands of people suffering right now in similar circumstances. The picture of him with his three Marine sons brings tears to my eyes and highlights the terrible injustices that the Trump regime is carrying out.
Carlos, thank you for your work, contributions, and impact on this current Immigration issue. I would like our government resources used to pursue these ICE agents. I believe many are not real ICE agents. They should be detained by our police force, questioned, and must show proof that they are legal employees of this department. If they are not, they should then be jailed and charged for impersonating an officer.
Spanglish incoming! Carlos, it warms my heart to see that you’re reaching out to both our Latinx community and our English-speaking allies. The time to stand up is now! There are groups on other platforms like Discord, signal, etc. where we share information on useful tools, apps, sightings of hielo, and collective action to protect nuestra gente. I urge you to create a space similar to those donde podemos hablar claramente de lo que estamos haciendo behind the scenes. Seria un lugar (gratis) donde separamos grupos tal vez por estado o estados muy cerca de cada uno, y de ahí podemos ayudar a nuestra gente que está cerca. The way to beat this is through real community in real life. People just need a safe gathering space to meet each other so they can connect in real life. Como siempre, muchas gracias por su dedicación a nuestra gente.
Thank you, Carlos. The follow-up on the video you shared is much appreciated and sorely needed. Highlighting how community is finding solutions gives encouragement to others to speak out and stand up to fear. Your voice is invaluable. I’m also in TX and I work in youth soccer. It is such a diverse sport- we have players and coaches from all over the world, and I worry about them. Have you seen many raids happening in the Houston area?

Seeing the community mobilize for the sake of love and respect brings me joy.
